University of Ulster is on the lookout for the Placement Employer of the Year.

The competition recognises the contribution that employers have made to Ulster student development through work experience in the past 12 months. (criteria below)

Categories of awards are:

  • Over 50 employees – Placement Employer of the Year Award (6 months plus)
  • Up to 50 employees – Placement Employer of the Year Award (6 months plus)
  • Public sector Placement Employer of the Year Award
  • Short-term Placement Employer of the Year Award
  • Placement Employer of the Year Award as nominated by an Ulster student (open only to full-time students who have returned from placement)
  • Placement Employer of the Year Award as nominated by a staff member at Ulster

The deadline for submissions will be 1 February 2012 after which a shortlist of nominations for each award category will be drawn up and presented on the Ulster Placement Employer of the Year Awards website.

Nominations will be judged by an expert panel representing industry and professional bodies/agencies and the winners for each category decided. Winning entries will be announced at a black tie ceremony on the evening of 10 May 2012 in the Loughview suite at the Jordanstown Campus.

Criteria

Ulster Staff Nomination form information:
Each nomination will be judged according to set criteria, in your submission you MUST refer to each of the following:
• engagement with the University
• quality of the placement experience
• management and organisation of placement
• mentoring and support offered

Placement employer Self-nomination form information:
Each nomination will be judged according to set criteria, in your submission you MUST refer to each of the following:
• Induction
• Placement Support
• Placement goals and objectives
• Student assessment, monitoring and feedback mechanisms
• What makes your work experience placements exceptional

Student nomination form information:
Please state why the organisation nominated should win an award for recognition of their contribution to work-based and placement learning at University of Ulster (250 words maximum).  In your submission you MUST refer to each of the following:
• management and organisation of placement
• training and development
• mentoring sand support
• feeling part of the organisation

Rules and Regulations:

* The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
* Placement must have been carried out at the organisation within the last 12 months by a full-time student of the University of Ulster.
* Placements completed in the University are not eligible.
* Nominations within the up to 50 employees category must be "autonomous” employers, i.e. they must be independent with no participation in other enterprises and no enterprise has a participation in the business.
* Ulster students currently on industrial placement for the 2011/12 academic year are not eligible to submit a nomination.
* Each member of University staff is permitted to nominate only ONCE.
* In the first instance, information provided is strictly confidential, however winners will agree to take part in publicity for the Awards
